An Alabama high school teacher was surprised by his senior class students and colleagues when they gifted him a golden retriever puppy.

Troy Rogers, who teaches at Clements High School in Athens, was given the puppy by his senior class after his 11-year-old dog passed away a few weeks earlier.

He shared images of himself and his new canine companion on Facebook, describing the surprise and saying that he had named the pup Clementine.

“I love these kids. There are no words. I have offered to pay for the puppy, as I had no idea the kids were doing this. I would never have allowed such a thing. I will consequently be adding the estimated cost of the puppy to the senior fund, out of my pocket,” he wrote.
