Pasco County issues Hurricane Irma evacuations

Pasco County officials issued mandatory evacuations ahead of Hurricane Irma, effective immediately.

On Friday morning, they ordered residents living west of U.S. Highway 19 and north of Fox Hollow Drive, west of Little Road to begin immediately.

The mandatory evacuation issued for residents with special needs and those living in manufactured homes, mobile homes, RV’s, in low-lying areas, or a flood-prone area.

A recommended evacuation was issued for residents living south of Fox Hollow Drive to the south county line between Regency Park Boulevard, Rowan Road, Seven Springs Boulevard, and Little Road. This goes into effect at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 8.

The following shelters will open on Friday, September 8, at 11 a.m. Officials said lunch will not be served and recommended you eat a meal before you arrive.

- River Ridge Middle/High School: 11646 Town Center Road in New Port Richey
- Raymond B. Stewart Middle School: 38505 10th Avenue in Zephyrhills
- Thomas E. Weightman Middle School: 30649 Wells Rd. in Wesley Chapel
- Pasco Middle School: 13925 14th St. in Dade City
- New River Elementary School: 4710 River Glen Blvd. in Wesley Chapel
- Longleaf Elementary School: 3253 Town Ave. in New Port Richey
- Odessa Elementary School: 12810 Interloken Rd. in New Port Richey
- Schrader Elementary School: 11041 Little Rd. in New Port Richey
- Trinity Elementary School: 2209 Duck Slough Blvd. in New Port Richey
- Fivay High School, 12115 Chicago Ave., Hudson (pet friendly)
- Centennial Middle School: 38505 Centennial Road in Dade City (pet friendly)
- River Ridge Middle/High School, 11646 Town Center Rd., New Port Richey
- Sunlake High School, 3023 Sunlake Blvd., Land O Lakes (pet friendly)
- Wiregrass Ranch High School, 2909 Mansfield Blvd., Wesley Chapel
      *Special needs, general population, and pets can be housed here
      *Registered sex offenders will be housed at this site, at a different location

Pasco County also provides a shelter program for residents who have special needs. Special needs residents must contact Pasco County Customer Service at 727.847.2411 to register for accommodation at the Fasano Regional Hurricane Shelter, located at 11611 Denton Ave., Hudson.

***Please note: Wesley Chapel High School is no longer accepting general population evacuees as it is being used to house skilled nursing facility patients.
