Watergoat installed at Lake Maggiore

A floating garbage collection device has been installed on Lake Maggiore near Dell Holmes Park in an effort to protect wildlife and the stop debris from causing damage to the ecosystem.

It’s called a Watergoat and one has already been successful in cleaning up waters in other parts of the Bay Area.

The group Tampa Bay Watch says the floating buoy structures work by capturing trash that flows out of stormwater discharge areas.

The Watergoat is a boom barrier with wildlife-friendly netting designed to keep water flow at a maximum.

Once debris and trash are captured by the Watergoat, it will be scooped up by Tampa Bay Watch staff and volunteers to be properly disposed of.

Tampa Bay Watch says it is always in need of volunteers, especially after heavy rainfalls. For more information, visit http://www.tampabaywatch.org/.
