Elderly woman killed in crash involving semi-truck at Hernando County intersection

An 86-year-old woman died, and a man was seriously hurt after a crash involving their car and a semi-truck at an intersection in Hernando County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

What we know: According to FHP, the crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday at SR 50 and U.S. 301 in Ridge Manor.

Troopers said a Ford Focus driven by a 72-year-old man turned into the tractor-trailer's path, causing the crash.

The 86-year-old passenger in the Focus died, while the driver suffered serious injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

What we don't know: FHP did not release the names of those involved in the crash.

NOTE (Mon. Jan. 13, 11:10 a.m.): FHP previously stated that the driver of the Focus also died in the crash. The agency later corrected that information to reflect serious injuries.
