Deadly Howard Frankland Bridge crash snarls rush hour traffic

A fatal crash closed two lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge on Tuesday morning.

What we know:

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes, heading toward Pinellas County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 64-year-old Tampa man was traveling southbound on I-275 in the outside center lane on a Honda motorcycle. 

At the same time, troopers said a 48-year-old Lakewood Ranch woman was driving a Kia Soul southbound on I-275 in the outside lane. 

As the motorcyclist changed lanes near milepost 35, troopers said he entered the path of the Kia Soul and was struck by the car. 

The motorcyclist died at the scene.  

Two lanes of traffic were blocked due to the crash.
