An Oregon high school football coach was fired this week, days after he coached his team to a 63-0 win against an opponent.

Head Coach Zach Loboy for Marist Catholic School in Eugene, Oregon was terminated for not being in line with the "mission and values" of the school.

What we know:

According to Fox News' OutKick, the school confirmed the firing in an email, saying they "determined that a change in leadership was necessary to reflect our school’s mission and values."

Dig deeper:

Last Friday, Marist competed against rival school Cottage Grove in a game that began almost as lopsided as it ended. In fact, the two teams did not play the game out until the end as the game was stopped at halftime.

The other side:

Fox News’ OutKick reports that Cottage Grove have not been very competitive in terms of talent, winning only one game in nine last season. Over the past three games their team has even been outscored 105-0.

Coach Loboy added further insult to injury by attempting an onside kick with just two minutes to go before halftime. Those plays typically are used by a team to intentionally immediately regain possession of the ball after a score.

His team was already winning 57-0 by that point.

Garrett Bridgens, the athletic director for Cottage Grove, told The Register-Guard that the decision was made "in the best interest of our kids, our fans – the entire situation – to do what was best for everyone."
