TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa police officers are searching for the driver who crashed into another vehicle and fled the scene early Saturday morning.
The crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. at N. 26th Street and Columbus Drive.
According to investigators, prior to the crash, police officers spotted a Jeep Cherokee driving erratically without headlights on. An officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, but it fled without stopping.
The officers did not pursue the SUV, which is TPD policy for pursuits.
A short time later, investigators said the Jeep collided with another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, 52-year-old Artemus Holley, was killed in the crash.
The driver and passenger of the Jeep got out and attempted to flee on foot. The passenger was caught and is not cooperating with detectives. The driver was not found.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact TPD.
