PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) - Investigators say a 14-year-old was shot in the head during a shootout between people in two vehicles.
Pasco County sheriff's deputies say the 14-year-old was in the backseat of a car with three others when the driver of another vehicle following behind them opened fire.
The shooting happened in front of Roger Mitchell’s home in Pasco County.
Mitchell’s 11-year-old daughter saw it happen, as she looked out the window.
“For my daughter to witness something like that, it’s traumatic for her,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell's next door neighbor, Robert Wiesman said he heard the shots.
“About 5:50 last night, I hear 5 to 6 gunshots,” Wiesman said.
His car wound up with a window shot out.
Deputies say they are looking for a dark-colored, late-model Mazda Protége with either black wheels or no hubcaps.
The driver is said to have a distinct eyebrow piercing.
Investigators believe the shooting is either drug related or an extremely violent case of road rage that began on US 19.
“According to the driver of the car the victim was in, there might’ve been looks or something exchanged at one another when a U- turn was made and the suspect car got behind them,” said Sgt. Jason Hatcher with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
The teen, meanwhile, was listed as critical Thursday.
