TAMPA (FOX 13) - A 60-year-old man was arrested after a pipe bomb exploded in his backyard in an east Tampa neighborhood.
Tampa police said they arrested Joseph David Caltagirone in connection to the explosion after it occurred before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 1019 East 17th Avenue, where he lives. The blast shook homes and startled neighbors.
Police and federal agents responded, and said they focused on the home where two men were inside. There were remnants of the PVC pipe bomb in the backyard where the explosion left a small crater in the ground. There were no injuries.
The second man was questioned, but has not been arrested, police said. Caltagirone faces a felony charge of making and discharging a destructive device.
