FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills is keeping tabs on a new area of tropical development in the southwestern Gulf. The National Hurricane Center says the system has a 30% chance of developing over the next seven days. Water temperatures in the southwestern Gulf are in the upper 80s, according to the NHC. We are monitoring a batch of wind shear moving through the area for most of this week. The wind shear is likely to limit tropical development while also bringing some tropical moisture to the area. The next name on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season list is Isaias.
