Tropics quiet as hurricane season winds down

FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills has the latest on the tropics, where activity remains quiet across the Atlantic basin. There is a little more than a month left in the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30. Strong wind shear has limited tropical development throughout much of October. Forecasters are monitoring a low-pressure area off Florida’s east coast, but it has less than a 20% chance of developing. Drier air continues to dominate the tropics, and there are currently no significant areas of concern. The next name on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season list is Kyle.
