Hurricane season begins Monday

FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills is keeping an eye on the tropics as hurricane season begins. She says Saharan dust moving across the Atlantic and possibly into the Gulf is keeping things quiet in the tropics. NOAA has predicted a quieter than normal hurricane season due to a strong El Nino forming, but Mills warns that it only takes one storm to make a season impactful, noting that Hurricane Andrew in 1992 formed during an El Nino season. Hurricane season runs through November 30.
