10-foot gator pulled from Florida storm drain

The Brief

    • A 10-foot alligator was removed from a storm drain in Southwest Florida.
    • Cape Coral firefighters helped FWC remove the reptile from the drain.
    • Due to the alligator’s size, it will be taken to a gator farm to live out the rest of its life and possibly be part of a breeding program.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Florida firefighters never know what they may encounter on the job.

Firefighters in Lee County recently helped the FWC pull a 10-foot gator out of a storm drain.

Alligator rescue

What we know:

On Sunday, a passerby reported seeing an alligator stuck in a storm drain at 2857 NW 27th St. in Cape Coral.

Firefighters with Engine 7 helped an FWC trapper rescue the 10’6" gator.

They used a winch and a brush truck to lift the lid off the culvert, helped remove the gator from the drain, and got him onto a truck, according to LCFD.

What we don't know:

It is unclear how long the alligator had been stuck in the drain.

What's next:

Due to the gator’s size, the reptile will be taken to a gator farm to live out the rest of its life and possibly be part of a breeding program.

On its Facebook page, the Cape Coral Fire Department wrote, "As a firefighter, you are never going to know what you are going to encounter but we are honored to help our Cape Coral community in anyway we can!"
