12 cats, 3 dogs and 3 people rescued from St. Pete house fire

Both people and pets were rescued from a burning home in St. Petersburg early Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to the home, off of 52nd Street North and 87th Terrace North, before 5 a.m. Three people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The owners’ 12 cats and three dogs were also rescued, and are doing OK. Pinellas County Animal Services is watching them until the three residents are released from the hospital. Fire crews had to pull one person from the burning home.

One dog did go to the hospital to provide the homeowners some comfort, officials say.

There is no word on the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire.
