TAMPA (FOX 13) - Family and friends identified the two victims of a plane crash on Davis Islands Friday as Louis Caporicci of Tampa and Kevin Carreno of St. Petersburg.
A twin-engine Cessna six-seater crashed at 11:30 a.m., killing both onboard.
According to social media and public records, Caporicci and Carreno were friends, business partners and classmates. They were graduates of the Unites States Air Force Academy.
"It shook my windows and my house, and my doors, and I could feel the earth shaking," one neighbor said.
Firefighters say the fire was so intense the pilot and passenger could not be identified right away.
"It absolutely hurts. It's sad. Especially being so close to home," said neighbor Chris Philips.
Investigators said the crash happened during takeoff, but other details about what went wrong were scarce.
Saturday, they confirmed witness reports that another plane may have been involved.
"There's evidence that there's two airplanes taking off at approximately the same time however whether the accident occured coincidental or as a cause of I don't know yet and that's one of the reasons why we're here to start gathering the information," said Paul Cox, an NTSB investigator.
The plane is registered to a non-profit in South Tampa, but representatives at the organization did not want to say anything - other than they were cooperating.
It was headed for Pensacola.
The airport reopened Saturday night. The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report within 10 days.
