INVERNESS, Fla. - A man wearing a gas mask died after Citrus County deputies shot him when he threatened to open fire at a home on East Seneca Street Sunday, according to Citrus County Sheriff David Vincent.

What we know:
CCSO said at about 5 p.m., a man called authorities and warned that deputies needed to respond to a home within 10 minutes before he started shooting people. Deputies said when they arrived at the scene, they attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home.
Moments later, a man wearing a gas mask and carrying a backpack walked out of the woods, according to the sheriff.
Deputies said they gave the suspect multiple commands, but he refused to comply. CCSO said deputies perceived a threat and opened fire.
After receiving medical attention at the scene, the man was taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital, where deputies said he later died.
The sheriff said no deputies were injured in the incident. All deputies involved will be placed on paid administrative leave as the state investigation continues, as per standard policy.
