SEMINOLE (FOX 13) - A Seminole man was arrested for allegedly starting fires at two Pinellas County churches earlier this month.
Pinellas County Sheriff's Office detectives say Brody Allen Seiger, 33, admitted to setting the fires, saying he did it for God.
Investigators believe both churches - Seminole United Methodist Church and Universal Harmony Church in Seminole - were unoccupied at the time of the fires. Some minor property damage resulted.
According to detectives, Seiger broke a window at the Universal Harmony Church during the late night hours of February 3. They say he lit a doormat on fire and pushed the doormat through the broken window of the church.
The sheriff's office released surveillance video of the man they believed was responsible for the church fires, leading to a tip the sheriff's office says led to the suspect's identity and his arrest.
About an hour later, they say Seiger broke a window at the Seminole United Methodist Church, poured gasoline through the broken window, and ignited the gasoline.
Detectives say Seiger admitted to setting the church fires claiming that he set the fires for God.
Detectives arrested Seiger and charged him two counts of first-degree arson. He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
