Faith in Action: Helping Refugees

A South Tampa church is helping a handful of refugee families get settled in their new homes in Tampa.

Hyde Park United Methodist Church is assisting seven families right now.

Each family has a distinct back story. The families were granted refuge last year from Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. All were skilled, middle-class citizens, with homes and jobs of their own.
Now, they're starting over and from scratch.  They're learning English, their children are attending school, and their biggest challenge is getting a good job.

Hyde Park Methodist's Vicki Walker says their goal in helping isn't to provide, but rather to aid the families is achieving self-sufficiency and to help preserve their dignity.
