A child therapist in Hillsborough County is facing 50 child pornography charges.

Tampa police arrested Alexander Smith after they found child porn being shared through at least one of his computers, according to an arrest affidavit. Officials said they obtained search warrants at his home and his workplace and located multiple computer files carrying child pornography.

The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force was contacted and joined the investigation. The 46-year-old was arrested on February 22.

"For some reason, people think when you do something on the internet that it is being done anonymously. That's not the case," said Tampa Police spokesperson Steve Hegarty. "There is a trail. It may be a difficult trail for us to follow, but we have some folks who are trained to do that sort of thing."

Smith worked at ABCS Behavioral & Educational Services & Therapy, located at 8910 North Dale Mabry Highway. Smith is listed as the clinical director on the business’ website.

His online biography said he “has been working with children and families for almost 20 years.”

Police don't believe Smith involved any of his patients in his alleged crimes.
