FHP: DUI driver hits, kills bicyclist on Howard Frankland

A bicyclist was hit and killed by a DUI driver in the southbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge Wednesday evening, according to FHP.

Florida Highway Patrol's Sgt. Steve Gaskins said a suspected DUI driver hit a bicyclist in the southbound lanes of Howard Frankland Bridge/I-275, just before the hump. The driver allegedly fled the scene, but was later stopped by troopers at Ulmerton Road and Roosevelt in Pinellas County. 

The bicyclist was identified as 44-year-old John M. Brennan of Sayreville, New Jersey. 

The accused DUI driver was identified as 67-yaear-old William Matthews of Bay Harbor Island. FHP said he was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry.
