A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died and a man was injured when they were hit by a Pasco County government vehicle Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says us that the toddler ran into Moog Road, right in front of the vehicle. His father then tried to save him and was hit, too.

FHP identified them as 26-year-old Frantz Joseph and one-year-old Jayden Joseph.

Jayden died at the hospital. Frantz was listed in stable condition.

FHP has not filed any charges, but troopers were in the middle of their investigation.

FHP says the vehicle was a county-owned truck and it was being driven by a county employee with the public works department.

It is unclear where the employee was headed. The county could not say whether the employee will be put on any kind of leave.
