WASHINGTON - The plane first lady Melania Trump was on safely returned to Joint Base Andrews Wednesday shortly after takeoff due to a "mechanical issue."
A FOX NEWS producer who was onboard the plane reported that about 10 minutes after takeoff there was a burning smell and that a thin haze of smoke could be seen. Secret Service agents we moved to the cockpit and press reporters were given wet towels to hold over their faces.
Within a few minutes the smoke and burning smell began to dissipate, according to the producer.
The plane safely landed at Joint Base Andrews at approximately 9:05 a.m. No injuries were reported.
The first lady’s plane was heading to Philadelphia for an event discussing opioid addiction.
