LARGO (FOX 13) - Trey and Tamika Greer are more than 10-year veterans at the 911 call center for the Largo Police Department.
The married couple's day-to-day is a little different than what's on TV shows like Fox's new drama, "911."
"Not every single call is critical life or death," said Tamika. "You get the funny calls and the people complaining that their neighbor didn't bring in the garbage can."
The Greers met on the job 13 years ago. About five years ago, Tamika had to take her son to the emergency room.
Trey came along for moral support.
"And that was big for him because he's terrified of hospitals," Tamika remembers.
That's when their friendship turned into something more.
"I sat in the ER for hours with her and it just kind of grew from there, to be honest with you," Trey remembers.
Now the Greers are celebrating one year of marriage and they still often work side-by-side in the call center.
What makes their teamwork successful at home and at work are their personalities.
"Both of us are pretty laid back. It helps make a good dispatcher," said Tamika.
"It's not that big of a deal. It means I have to answer to her at home and work," joked Trey.
The couple is also celebrating their professional accomplishments. Tamika recently received the national 911 Safety Professional Award for going the extra mile to track down a Largo woman who was lost in the woods in Volusia County.
"I got her to tell me where, who her cell phone carrier was, and they agreed to GPS her phone. Once they did that, I was able to figure out where she was and call the appropriate agencies so they could go out and find her," said Tamika.
"I was so proud of her. It was a tremendous accomplishment and a tremendous honor," beamed Trey.
While they are unflappable at work, the two can get pretty moved when they talk about each other.
"Honestly she's the strongest person I've ever met. I'm just so proud of her," said Trey.
"He's my rock and the one that keeps me going and keeps me focused," said Tamika.
