Microbursts possibly caused wind damage in Sarasota County

Residents in Sarasota County woke up to find damaged property after Monday’s storms.

County officials said there was storm damage in Venice, Casey Key and Nokomis reported around 5 p.m. 

Emergency officials said four roofs and six carports were damaged in communities such as Lake Village Mobile Home Park in Nokomis. The entire mobile home park lost power for a while. Nokomis firefighters helped residents safely place tarps over damaged roofs.

The National Weather Service said it was most likely caused by microbursts from the storms.
