TAMPA (FOX 13) - It’ll be a few degrees warmer across Florida tonight, but don’t go putting away those sweaters quite yet. Parts of the Bay Area are again under a freeze warning, while the rest of the region will still be chilly.
The National Weather Service says a freeze warning will be in effect for inland Hernando, Citrus, Levy, and Sumter counties, as well as points north. Those areas should see temperatures as low as 28 degrees between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday.
A hard freeze warning – meaning even lower temperatures – will be in effect for Ocala, Gainesville, and northern Florida as early as 9 p.m. Friday. And lasting into Saturday morning.
Freeze warnings have been a nightly event most of the week in the Sunshine State, but that streak should soon come to an end. In fact, the immediate Tampa Bay area should already be done with sub-freezing weather – though it will be close.
“Even though it will be cold, we’ll stay above freezing,” FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg offered. “Then Saturday into Sunday, the freeze watches should be gone.”
By Saturday afternoon, much of the area could be in the 60s. Sunday, highs will be closer to 70 – which is normal for this time of year – and Monday will be breezy but highs should finally top 70.
