BRADENTON (FOX 13) - The nostalgic gift that everyone wants this year, but few have been able to get their hands on, is the elusive NES Classic Edition, Nintendo's throwback to their original 8-bit gaming system that shaped the childhood of just about every kid who grew up in the 80s.
The system sold out within seconds of its initial release. But on Tuesday, shoppers have one more chance to purchase the NES Classic before Christmas.
Best Buy announced that they will have limited quantities of the high-demand product for sale at select locations nationwide on Tuesday. The company made sure to specify that the NES Classics will not be available for sale online.
“Two of the most common questions we’ve gotten this holiday season are, ‘Do you have the NES Classic edition?’ and ‘When will you get more?'” said Best Buy Senior Category Officer Amy College. “So we know this is one of the year’s hottest gifts, and we’re excited to give gaming fans one more chance to bring one home for the holidays.”
Long lines had already formed outside Bradenton and Sarasota Best Buy stores by 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The consoles are being sold on a first-come first-serve basis. Best Buy says they are using a ticketing system like they do on Black Friday for the customers waiting in like.
Purchases are limited to one per customer.
The gaming system has the same look as the original, and comes pre-loaded with 30 games, including Tecmo Bowl, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Pacman, The Legend of Zelda, and many more.
Only one controller comes with these bad boys, and Best Buy says accessories like extra controllers will be sold in limited quantities as well.
Employees at the Bradenton Best Buy store say there are between 20 and 50 NES Classics available at their location.
