Person in water under Howard Frankland now safe

Florida Highway Patrol said the man who ended up in the water under the Howard Frankland Bridge Tuesday night jumped over the wall to avoid an out-of-control car.

He was reportedly holding on to a rope before being pulled to safety by St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue crews around 10:30 p.m. He was taken to Tampa General for evaluation. 

The initial call came in around 10 p.m. for an accident involving four people on the bridge. 

A second person was flown to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma alert. That person's condition was unknown.

A third patient was also taken to Tampa General hospital for evaluation and the forth patient was treated and released on scene. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating this crash.
