Computers once used for illegal activity, were cleaned out and donated to children by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency donated 10 computers to the Venice YMCA. They were seized during investigations into illegal internet gambling cafes throughout the county.

Prior to the donation, they were cleaned by digital forensic technicians, removing any illegal content, the agency reported.

The computers will be repurposed and placed at two campuses in Venice, supporting both administrative and classroom needs.

“We are very proud of our continued partnership with the YMCA,” said Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight. “By taking electronics seized from criminals to support the outstanding mission of this organization, we’re setting an example of what it means to truly invest in our community.”
