TIERRA VERDE (FOX 13) - At the very southern tip of Pinellas County are five offshore keys that make up Fort De Soto County Park. This beautiful and historic park is best known for award-winning beaches, but is also nationally recognized for its fishing, bird-watching opportunities, ecotourism, and exploring the abandoned 120-year-old military fort.
Park manager Jim Wilson thinks the park is a special place. “Fort De Soto is the crown jewel of the Pinellas County Park system,” he offered. “It’s not just a local destination; this is a worldwide destination.”
The park is easily accessible off the Pinellas Bayway, but there is a toll road and park entrance fee to get in.
