Police in south Florida said they are searching for a man who grabbed a hotel clerk, covered her mouth with his hand for nearly five minutes before she was able to yell for help.

Davie police released surveillance video showing the struggle between the two. They said the December 22 incident occurred at the Woodspring Suites, located at 5700 Reese Road. The video, which may be difficult to watch for some, showing the unidentified man enter the front lobby door and jump over the front desk counter.

Investigators said the suspect, who had part of his face covered, demanded that she opened the safe, but it turned out employees are not allowed to have the combination needed to open it. Then, he demanded that she open the register.

The two struggled for about five minutes before a guest walked down the hallway, giving the woman a chance to scream for help. That’s when the masked suspect jumped back over the counter. The victim was also seen shoving him over the edge of the desk. There was no information indicating whether anything was stolen.

The suspect was described as a black male, possibly in his 20s. He was seen wearing a black hoodie with his face covered. He is a medium build, between 5’10 and 6’1 feet tall.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Davie Police Department at 954-693-8200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
