Suspect in armed robbery at Hard Rock casino arrested

The man who robbed a cashier inside the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa was located in Georgia, police say.

Seminole police, who are part of the law enforcement agency for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, say they identified 24-year-old Dirk Davis of Tampa as the armed robber. He was arrested Tuesday in Ailey and is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

Davis is accused of entering the poker room early Friday and pointing a gun at a cashier demanding money. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Casino officials say it was the first time they were a victim of an armed robbery during their 14 years in operation.

Later that day, officials released surveillance video of the suspect, and credit Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay with leading to the identification of Davis.

“It’s not smart to attempt a crime at a casino,” said Seminole Police Chief William Latchford.  “All Seminole Casinos have comprehensive surveillance video and other equipment that provide good quality photos and give us a clear picture of incidents that occur on property.”

Proceedings to extradite Davis from Georgia are underway, and police say they expect him to return to Hillsborough County.
