TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa Police launched a death investigation in Hyde Park after a man died from gun shot wounds Sunday morning.
Investigators say a neighbor living near the intersection of Swann Avenue and South Willow Avenue called to report gunshots in the area just before 4:30 a.m.
When first responders arrived on scene they fond the victim in front of a home in the 600 block of South Willow Ave. Police describe him as a black man between 20 to 30-years-old.
Detectives spent the morning hours canvassing the neighborhood, looking for potential witnesses, and asking those in the area to review their home security systems for suspicious activity.
Janelle McGregor, a spokesperson for the Tampa Police Department, says police are in the beginning stages of the investigation.
"There are still many questions that the detectives have that they're working to answer. Who he is? does he have ties to this area? and more importantly to find out who would have wanted to do this to him?," McGregor explained.
Locals we spoke with say they're shocked by the violence, but they won't let it stop them from their daily routines.
"I think it's probably a rare occurrence," said Brendan McNally, who has been a South Tampa resident for a few months now.
"We'll see what the police say," he added.
So far, the victim has not been identified and no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the deadly shooting should contact Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay or The Tampa Police Department.
