Trump visits South Korea amid push for trade deal with Seoul

President Donald Trump continued his trip throughout Asia on Wednesday where he met with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Gyeongju.

After an honor ceremony, Trump and Lee sat down for a meeting with their advisers. Lee is asking Trump to allow South Korea to receive fuel needed to develop nuclear-powered submarines.

Trump gives remarks at APEC summit in South Korea

President Donald Trump delivered remarks Wednesday local time at the APEC summit in South Korea, the last scheduled stop of his week-long trip to Asia. He called The Republic of Korea a "cherished American friend and a close ally."

During their Wednesday meeting, Lee told reporters that South Korea doesn’t intend to build nuclear-armed submarines, but seeks armed, nuclear-powered ones capable of functioning quietly underwater for extended periods. 

Trump also gave a speech at the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit was a business forum, where he boasted of an "economic revolution" in America.

Trump's visit comes amid a push to work on a trade deal between the U.S. and South Korea, with Trump campaigning for South Korea to invest $350 billion in the U.S.

Trump receives gold medal and crown from South Korea

President Donald Trump received a gold medal and crown from South Korea. According to the Associated Press, the medal represents the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, the country’s highest honor. Trump is the first U.S. president to receive it.

Trump also received a replica of a royal crown from the Silla Kingdom. The original crown was found in a tomb in Gyeongju, the kingdom’s capital.

Trump said it was "very special."

Trump touts progress on trade deal with South Korea

"We made our deal pretty much finalized," President Donald Trump said in opening remarks at the dinner. According to the Associated Press, Trump didn’t offer details about the deal with South Korea, and neither has the White House.

Korean officials tell the AP that putting up money may destabilize their own economy, and they would prefer to offer loans and loan guarantees.

Trump-Xi meeting set for Thursday

China’s Foreign Ministry announced that President Xi Jinping will meet with President Donald Trump in Busan on Thursday, "to exchange views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest."

The Associated Press reported that Trump hinted at plans for the meeting, but this is the first official confirmation from the Chinese side.
