TAMPA (FOX 13) - One day after the Gasparilla parade-goers lined Bayshore Boulevard, all that remains is the trash and beads they left behind.
Hundreds of volunteers took to the streets Sunday morning to keep Tampa Bay beautiful, and collect thousands of pounds of trash, debris and beads.
The massive effort started as a grass roots community group and has expanded to include over 400 volunteers in nine years.
Last year, the volunteers collected over 6,600 pounds of debris.
Co-founders Dan and Christine Fisher are hoping their groups can get the debris off of the ground before it has a chance to blow into the bay and threaten marine life.
Volunteer kayakers and divers will head out to clean beads and trash from the bay the following weekend.
