LUTZ (FOX 13) - Hillsborough County deputies released surveillance photos and a sketch Monday of a man accused of attacking a woman jogging on a trail over the weekend.
The woman was walking close to her community along the Northdale Lake Park trail Saturday afternoon, when a man attacked her from behind and ran off waving her shorts over his head.
"In this case, it's a very bizarre set of circumstances, where he just knocks her down, takes her shorts and then goes off running into the woods," Cpl. Larry McKinnon said.
The woman suffered some cuts and bruises, but deputies said she feared the worst.
"Certainly a very frightening and dangerous experience for that young victim," McKinnon continued. "Anybody that knocks you down and starts pulling your pants off, it doesn't take much to start figuring out what is a potential next step in that particular type of scenario, but fortunately that didn't occur."
Deputies are now looking into whether a report of a similar case along the same trail less than a month ago might be connected.
The attacker is a white man with brown hair and a stocky build, between 25 and 30 years old. He's 5 feet, 10 inches tall and was wearing a dark grey short-sleeve buttoned shirt, khaki shorts, black Nike athletic shoes, two-tone baseball cap and mirrored aviator-style sunglasses.
Anyone with information about the attacker should contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
