RIVERVIEW (FOX 13) - A beloved softball coach is being honored for her years of devotion to one team.
Angela Slater led Riverview High School to two state softball titles. She coached there for 31 seasons and had more than 500 victories.
She died Thursday after a year-long battle with cancer.
Despite her diagnosis - slater continued coaching last season and into the fall. Now, her husband is taking over coaching the team.
"Mr. Slater's gonna be OK," offered teacher Beth hoover, who was coached by Angela Slater. "I'm here helping him out today -- anything he needs, I'll be here for him. And I think he'll be fine because he had good footsteps in front of him."
"She'll inspire, out on this field, the girls -- now and in the future," assistant coach Danny Brandt added.
A special memorial was held for Mrs. Slater during today's game. Her husband Ron, who is taking over with the help of his son Cody, also coaches golf for the school.
