Tropical disturbance to bring rain to Florida
FOX 13 meteorologist Valerie Mills is keeping an eye on the active tropics as we end September. So far there has been 11 named storms, with Tropical Storm Kirk forming on Monday morning. Mills is watching a system in the Caribbean that has a 40% chance of developing over the next week. She says that it is slow developing so it likely won’t move into the Gulf of Mexico until the weekend. She notes that models show the system being fairly weak, but she cautions that it is too early to tell how strong it will get and where it will go. However, once it gets into the central part of the Gulf, it will likely bring rain to Florida. Tropical Storm Kirk is expected to strengthen into a ‘major hurricane’ but Mills says it will likely stay over open waters. A tropical wave off the coast of Africa has an 80% chance of development over the next seven days. Isaac is now a post-tropical storm and Joyce is a depression. Both are expected to stay over open waters. The next named storm will be Leslie.
