Wildlife rescuers busy as forest fires devastate habitats

Surrounded by ash and burned bushes, a gopher tortoise was rescued during the Carlton Reserve brush fire. 550 acres burned after the fire spread over the weekend. A Sarasota County Parks and Recreation employee rushed the tortoise to the Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida.
