Tropical development possible off East Coast
FOX 13 meteorologist Valerie Mills is tracking a new area of development off the East Coast. The system is moving slowly over the Atlantic and could drift northeast over the next few days. The National Hurricane Center gives it a 30% chance of development over the next seven days. An area of low pressure has formed off the Carolina coast in association with a cold front that has moved across the U.S. in recent days. The system could develop into a nontropical low that eventually separates from the frontal boundary and takes on subtropical or tropical characteristics over the coming week. Rough surf and high waves are possible along the East Coast. The next name on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season list is Josephine.
