Baby boy dies after being left in hot car

A Hernando County father desperately performed CPR on his baby boy Friday morning after returning home from work and discovering the child in a hot car, deputies say, but ultimately the boy died.

A sheriff’s office spokesperson says the 911 call came in from the Elgin Boulevard home just after 11 a.m.  Investigators say 9-month-old Keyton O’Callaghan was in the care of his mother, Cami Lee Moyer, at the time.

Deputies say Eric O'Callaghan pulled into the driveway and found Keyton in the other car parked outside the home.  He began performing CPR on his son until paramedics arrived.

The boy was hospitalized in critical condition, but later died.

Investigators are speaking to both of the child’s parents and are awaiting a warrant to search inside the home. They don't know yet how long Keyton was inside the car.

Criminal charges are possible, a spokesperson added.
