Hernando toddler bitten by dog
SPRING HILL (FOX 13) - A Hernando County toddler has been hospitalized after being bitten by the family dog while playing.
Deputies say the 16-month old’s mother was watching the toddler play with the dog when the dog bit the child in the head. The child suffered “traumatic injuries” from the bite, they said, and was taken to a local trauma center.
According to investigators, the Spring Hill family adopted the dog from Hernando County Animal Services about two months ago but, according to the owner, the dog has shown no signs of aggression since then.
The owner told deputies that the dog did not appear to maliciously attack the child, but rather appeared to be playing.
The case remains under investigation. Deputies say the Department of Children and Families has been contacted and the dog has been quarantined.
No names or other information has been released.
