Tractor-trailer driver hits, kills motorcyclist on I-4 and takes off: FHP

The driver of a tractor-trailer is being sought by the Florida Highway Patrol after leaving the scene of a fatal crash on I-4 Wednesday afternoon.

What we know:

At 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, troopers say that a 26-year-old Lakeland man was traveling westbound on I-4 at a high rate of speed. 

As the motorcyclist was traveling west of Thonotosassa Road, he attempted to pass two tractor-trailers, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say as the rider attempted to "lane-split pass" the trucks, he lost control, fell off the motorcycle, and was fatally struck by one of the vehicles. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck that struck the motorcyclist took off, continuing westbound on I-4.

What we don't know:

The driver of the tractor-trailer is currently unidentified.
