Murder-suicide investigation in Tampa

Genevieve Curtis reports.

A man and woman were found dead inside a Tampa home after a murder-suicide Tuesday afternoon, according to officers.

What we know:

The Tampa Police Department said they were called to the 2400 block of W Texas Avenue, which is in the Bayshore Gardens neighborhood of Tampa, at around 1 p.m. They found the bodies of the man and woman inside a home in the area.

Detectives said they believe the man shot the woman before dying from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. They said they appeared to be in a relationship.

Officials had Texas Avenue taped off as they gathered evidence, and their forensic team could be seen coming in and out of the home.

What we don't know:

Detectives are continuing to gather evidence to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. Police have not identified the man and woman found dead.

This remains an active investigation.

Local perspective:

Crime scene tape is not a common sight on Tom Hastings walk through the Bayshore Gardens neighborhood, which is where he's lived for more than 20 years.

"There's such a mishmash of people who live here, from 20-year-olds to 75-year-olds," Hastings said.

Several neighbors told FOX 13 that the home, which appeared to be the center of their investigation, is a short-term rental, and that there had been a green car outside the home for the past few days.
