Vitale brothers paint the town with murals

With a can of spray paint, Johnny Vitale is bringing more than a touch of Hollywood glamour to the historic Playhouse Theater in St. Petersburg.

For the seventh year, the mural art of St. Petersburg takes center stage during the SHINE Mural Festival.

This year's festivities take place October 15-24, highlighting the city's diverse collection of public art from renowned local, national, and international mural artists.

SHINE has received attention from around the world as one of the premier outdoor art exhibitions. The festival was founded with grant funds from the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and is produced by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance (SPAA).

Bucs take center stage in new Vitale Bros mural

The Vitale Brothers have watched St. Pete's art scene grow from the inside as part of that community for 25 years. Their latest work makes Tom Brady even larger than life, if that's possible.

Feature artists include Atlanta's Greg Mike, who uses crisp lines to recreate and interpret mid-century iconic cartoons; St. Petersburg's Jenipher Chandley, whose realistic paintings explore the relationships between nature and humans with themes of strength, beauty, loss, pain and resilience; and St. Petersburg's Vitale Brothers, whose classic artistry features icons from Marilyn Monroe to Tom Brady.
