Holmes Beach businessman electrocuted on New Year's Eve remembered for work in community

The Anna Maria Island and Holmes Beach communities are mourning the loss of a business owner who was electrocuted on New Year's Eve.

Loved ones remember 51-year-old Jason Edwards as compassionate, giving and goofy. They said he died doing what he loved most: helping others.

"He was in the attic, doing a favor for a friend of his trying to connect power to an RV, and he got electrocuted off of the air handler," said Pete Dospel, Jason's business partner.

Just two months before Hurricane Helene, Jason and his business partner opened Blue Wave Restorations in Holmes Beach. Edwards worked around the clock to help his community.

"He was all about just wanting to get the island back to normal, so people can get their jobs and bring financial stability and bring life back to normal," said his sister, Megan Edwards.

Dospel said Jason helped recruit a team of mostly women and provided them with the tools to enter the male-dominated field.

"Some of them are down on their luck. Needing something new," Dospel said, "They're very appreciative. We offer them a lot of training. Something that maybe other companies wouldn't hire them on to do."

His loved ones said New Year's Eve will never be the same without him. They hope his legacy of kindness and generosity will inspire others to live the same way.
