Truck overturns, catches fire on I-4
TAMPA (FOX 13) - An asphalt truck overturned and caught fire along Interstate 4 this afternoon, sending black smoke billowing into the air.
The scene of the accident was along the westbound lanes of the interstate, not far from 22nd Street. Westbound traffic was blocked at that spot while Tampa Fire Rescue crews extinguished the flames with help from a ladder truck that actually parked underneath the interstate overpass.
The driver, 56-year-old Shameek Wright of Largo, was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he's said to be in serious condition.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the driver lost control and went onto the shoulder and the truck overturned. FHP says charges are pending.
