Rainmaker: NHC watching first tropical disturbance

TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - We’re exactly a month away from the official start of hurricane season, but forecasters are already keeping an eye on a weak area of low pressure that could bring heavy rain to parts of Florida ahead of the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center, in its first advisory of the year, says the disorganized trough of showers  has no chance to develop into a tropical system in the next two days, and only a 20-percent chance after that.

But regardless of its development, forecasters say locally heavy rain is possible from the Bahamas to Florida.

“We’re looking at a setup tomorrow that is going to favor a good chance of some widespread showers and a few thunderstorms,” FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg explained. “It’s only going to be around for tomorrow, and then it’s going to skedaddle back to the north and east.”
