BRANDON, Fla. - A Brandon man is facing several charges after threatening two people with a gun inside a home, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The backstory:
Deputies were called to a home on Sandy Creek Dr. on Wednesday night for reports of a man threatening two people with a gun.
When deputies got to the home, they saw a green vehicle speeding away from the house. It didn't take long for deputies to identify the driver and conduct a traffic stop near Garnet Dr. and Bell Shoals Rd.
Alexander Devane Bennett, 36, was cuffed and taken to jail. Deputies found a loaded gun on the front seat. The gun had 16 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. Deputies also found several boxes of bulk ammunition.
Bennett is facing the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (x2)
- Driving Under the Influence
What they're saying:
"Reckless and dangerous behavior that threatens the safety of our community will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County. We are committed to taking every action necessary to hold this individual accountable for his actions," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our deputies' swift actions during the traffic stop prevented this individual from committing further crimes and helped ensure the safety of our residents."
