Brush fire smolders in Brooker Creek Preserve

WESTCHASE (FOX 13) - A brush fire sparked overnight and flames are still making their way through the Brooker Creek Preserve.

Crews from Florida Forest Service and other agencies were able to get the upper hand on the five-acre brush fire and, while it's not out yet, it's 65-percent contained.

Smoke is still wafting over northern Pinellas and northwest Hillsborough County.

Officials say no structures are in immediate danger, and the park's hiking trails are open today.

It's possible the fire was started by lightning during last night's storms, but authorities are not sure yet.
