As Father’s Day 2026 approaches this June 21st, the retail landscape is witnessing a seismic shift. No longer satisfied with the "World’s Best Dad" mug, consumers are projected to spend a record-breaking $24.5 billion this year.
Data from the National Retail Federation shows that "uniqueness" is now the top priority for 48% of shoppers. From the "Self-Care Savant" to the "High-Tech Hobbyist," here are our suggestions to shop for the many types of dads in your life.
1. The Self-Care Dad
The "Dad Bod" is getting a professional upgrade. Self-care is one of the hottest categories for gifting this year, with the NRF projecting $1.8 billion in spending in the personal care category.
The Trend: Moving beyond bar soap to multi-step skincare routines and Inflatable Ice Baths for recovery.
The Gift: Give dad his own gua sha kit, a set of undereye masks, or a tool to get soreness out of those shoulders.
2. The High-Tech Dad
For the father who's always looking for the next tech trend, 2026 is all about AI integration and wearable connectivity.
The Trend: Dads are swapping bulky smartwatches for discreet Samsung Galaxy Rings, AI-powered smart glasses and other subtle wearables.
The Gift: For every new gadget, there are countless cool and/or useful accessories. Consider stands, cases, chargers, protective tools and more.
3. The New Hobby Dad
During the pandemic, many found solace in trying out new hobbies – and if the dads in your life have kept up the hobby-hopping habit, you've got loads of gift-giving options. This type of dad is always a YouTube tutorial away from launching a new pastime.
The Trend: Experiences over objects. Think pottery classes and master classes over whiskey stones and DIY kits.
The Gift: A gift certificate for a class at a local art studio, a tour of a craft brewery and a conversation with the head brewer, or a trip to a local architectural salvage company to find a new project.
4. The Sustainability Dad
This dad prioritizes "Buy-it-for-Life" (BIFL) quality over convenience.
The Trend: These gifts prioritize quality over trendiness or affordability (which doesn't mean they aren't affordable!) or are created from upcycled materials.
The Gift: A straight razor and shaving brush will eliminate the need for plastic disposables; also keep an eye out for useful everyday items (think swim trunks made from recycled fishing nets, or desk accessories made from repurposed vinyl records.
5. The Gourmet Dad
Think beyond the grill: Chef Dads have gotten more adventurous – and precise.
The Trend: Specialized fermentation, sourdough science, and high-end pizza accessories.
The Gift: A smart meat thermometer, a luxury pizza stone set for the outdoor kitchen, or a set of gourmet meat rubs.
6. The Travel Dad
This dad loves to see new places, from bustling city centers to breathtaking national parks.
The Trend: Tools that will be useful regardless of destination – less camping, more organization.
The Gift: Power banks with solar panels keep phones and wearables charged and ready, while cable organizers make sure that travel bags aren't clogged and chaotic.
7. The Music & Movies Dad
Here's a dad who might love a new subscription as much as a new gadget. Help this dad turn the backyard into a home cinema for summer nights, or give them the gift of discovering new favorites.
The Trend: The "Backyard Cinema" is a hot topic, as are alternatives to music giant Spotify.
The Gift: Months of tunes from Tidal or Apple Music are a surefire winner, while cinephile dads would love a way to discover films they've never heard of via services (like the Criterion Channel) or social platforms (hint: a Letterboxd Pro membership is an incredible value).
8. The Experience Dad
Rounding out the list is the dad who wants nothing but your time. Whether you head to an escape room, a speakeasy, a ghost tour, or your local stadium, grab two tickets or seats and spend some quality time together.
The Trend: Special outings were the top gift category by total spending in 2025.
The Gift: Take dad to a sporting event – and think outside the box with an outing to watch rugby or Banana Ball. Alternatively, get more bang for your buck with great seats to the WNBA or NWSL.
